Healthy Snacks to Keep A Mom Going

 As a mom, there never seems to be enough hours in a day! Whether it’s balancing a newborn’s schedule, two young toddlers, or work and family life, it’s easy to get swept away and forget about the engine behind the family machine: Mom! Healthy snacking can be a quick way to help refuel you during the day to meet the demands of running a household, without having to be complicated!

The trick to any good snack is that it contains a food that is high in protein: (legumes, nuts, milk products) with a food that contains fibre (fruit or vegetables, as well as whole grain products). These are nutrient-rich foods to keep your mind going, and the synergy between fibre and protein will help keep you full!


Here are some examples of some great snacks to keep you going:

½ – ¾ cup plain greek yogurt (Protein)  + fresh or frozen berries  (Fibre) with a dash of maple syrup

Half  of a whole grain English muffin (Fibre) + Melted Slice of Swiss cheese (Protein) +  apple slices on top (Fibre)

1 Banana sliced (fibre) with 1 tbsp of peanut butter (protein) : Put it over a slice of toasted bread if you are especially hungry or as a part of breakfast!

Baby carrots (fibre) + ¼ cup hummus (protein)
Another Variation: 1 cup whole grain tortilla chips + ¼ cup Jalepeno flavoured  hummus.

On-the-go: Cashew Cookie Lara Bar: contains cashews (protein) + dates (fibre).


Remember- Don’t be shy to snack! If we ignore when our body first begins to tell us we’re hungry, we will become increasingly lethargic or irritable, and are more likely to overeat at our next meal!
